The holidays are upon us and it is time to talk turkey.

We will be getting two breeds of turkey -- both of which are pasture raised, air chilled, antibiotic free, but not organic. 

Heritage: BN Ranch raises five breeds of heritage turkeys, which tend to be a little gamier and have more dark meat than the usual turkey, as well as smaller breasts. They will be sold for $7.50/lb.

White Turkeys or Broad Breasted: a milder, more traditional Thanksgiving turkey, the breed has larger breasts and will sell for $5.50/lb.

We would love to make this your best Thanksgiving yet -- one that you and your guests can talk about for years to come, so we have come up with the Turchetta -- it is a deboned turkey rubbed down with garlic, fresh herbs, salt & pepper, and duck fat, rolled and tied into a roast. It is so easy and will turn out so splendidly juicy that you might become a converted Turchetta lover for life. The cost is the price of the turkey plus $85.

We will have all of the great regular Thanksgiving Classics: loose housemade sausage for stuffing, brine mix, stock, gravy, Llano Secoknuckle or boneless hams, ducks, game hens and guinea fowl. We are happy to debone your turkey ($20), or debone birds for Turduckens ($40).

Located in Bernal Heights, Avedano's is an old-fashioned butcher shop and neighborhood market specializing in sustainably grown and raised products. We are committed to supporting local and responsible businesses.


We cut all of our meat the old-fashioned way, with a handsaw, a meat cleaver, and a boning knife. All of our choice cuts come from responsibly raised, hormone,steroid, and antibiotic free animals. Every week we procure and butcher whole grass-fed lambs, two heritage breed pigs, and we get a side of grass fed beef from one of our few handpicked local ranches that we proudly distribute through our meat boxes.

If you don't see the cut of meat that you want, we would be happy to source it for you from any one of our local ranches. We receive shipments of fresh wild and certified-sustainably farmed fish six days a week from Royal Hawaiian Seafood.

It's our responsibility to you to make sure we know from who and where all of our meat comes from so that we can maintain a sustainable butcher shop with only the highest quality of meat.


Is your cupboard bare? We carry everything you need to stock your pantry from ordinary items like Blue Bottle coffee, Katz oilive oil, and jam to unique imported specialty items like Granora pasta and Sardanelli oil-cured tuna from Italy. To satisfy your sweet tooth, we offer artisanal confections from our friends Kika's Treats, Poco Dolce, Clairesquares, and treats from Black Jet Bakery.


We know that man (and woman!) cannot live by meat alone, so we carry all of the fresh ingredients you need to round out your meal. When possible we source these from our favorite, small-production local purveyors. Because we're meat and potatoes kind of gals, we offer seasonal, organic produce from local farms. You'll also find we source a lot of raw and rare cheeses from Gourmet and More, fresh pasta from the Pasta Shop in Berkeley, charcuterie from Olympic Provisions, Fra'Mani and Zoe's Meats, as well as grass-fed hot dogs from Let's Be Frank.
